You’ll meet members who have embarked on completely new second careers in midlife or after retirement those who had a career plan in college, then found themselves doing something totally different and members whose Sigma Kappa experience directly impacted their career choices. The stories in this issue are fascinating examples of how sometimes even the best-laid plans go in directions we never expect. I can’t even imagine what my life would be like if I hadn’t opened that email so many years ago. Now, nearly 15(!) years later, I have made a rewarding career of telling the stories of Sigma Kappa members and the organization, getting to use my writing, editing, and design skills, and connecting with members from all walks of life and backgrounds. I’d never been to the city before and didn’t know anyone, but something told me this leap of faith was worth taking. I was working at a newspaper at the time, but the opportunity seemed too good to pass up, and a few weeks later I was packing up to move to Indianapolis. My current job obviously never crossed my mind, as I didn’t even know it was an option until a few months after graduation, when national headquarters sent out a mass email about a job opening. FROM THE EDITOR VOLUME 119, ISSUE 4 The official magazine of Sigma Kappa Sorority founded at Colby College, Waterville, Maine, NovemSIGMA KAPPA NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS Dear Sigma Kappas, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” It’s one of the most common questions kids are asked, starting as soon as they first grasp the concept of a “job.” I remember a few of my answers to this question over the years: ballerina, artist, art teacher, marine biologist (I am a child of the ‘80s, after all), working in a print shop like my dad, advertising executive, graphic designer.
